League Status Update (as of 5/21/20)
While San Mateo County moves into Stage 2 and beyond, the Board will continue to monitor directives as they relate to youth sports activities. Until youth sports are specifically allowed to resume, all BRSLL baseball-related activities (practices, games, etc.) continue to be suspended.
We ask all coaches and anyone affiliated with BRSLL not host or organize any practice/gathering at fields or anywhere else (ie. backyards, facilities, etc.) for their child's team, under BRSLL auspices, wearing BRSLL hats or shirts, or using BRSLL facilities or equipment. We strongly encourage everyone to continue abiding by guidelines issued by relevant public health authorities.
The league will continue its wait-and-see approach but will keep planning for a possible resumption of play this summer/fall. We are currently developing a set of social distancing and sanitation protocols for practices and games, if we are to resume play. This is being developed alongside guidance from Little League International, other youth sports organizations (including other Little Leagues), as well as from the State/County. We will share these with families upon completion.
Financials & Refunds
As a non-profit volunteer organization, running your player's baseball season is funded primarily through families’ registration fees. In preparation for a full season of baseball, prior to the official suspension of activities (March 12), roughly 50% of total registration fees collected was spent on the following:
- Field rehabilitation and maintenance
- Facilities rentals
- Uniforms, including white pants from Goetz Bros.
- Pre-season hitting & fielding clinics
- Insurance + city fees
For those who wish to continue/participate in the 2020 season, no action is required at this time. Your player will remain registered, and BRSLL will retain your registration fee in anticipation of playing some form of baseball season this year. If our best intentions to play in some form this year are unattainable, we will revisit donations/refunds at a later time.
We also understand not all families wish to continue with BRSLL at this time and a small number have asked about refunds of registration fees. For those who wish to immediately withdraw from the 2020 season, there are several options:
DONATE: Withdraw your player(s), but BRSLL retains registration fee as a donation to help offset any costs associated with restarting the season, intensified safety and sanitation protocols, etc.
Action item: Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with subject line ‘DONATE,’ and we will provide you information towards your donation (possibly tax-deductible).
REFUND: Withdraw your player(s), and BRSLL refunds a percentage of your registration fee.
Action item: Please email email@example.com with subject line ‘REFUND,’ and we will work with you directly to process a partial refund of your registration fees.
We also acknowledge this is a difficult time for many families. If one of the above 2 options does not work for your particular situation, please email me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org, and we will be happy to work with you directly.
It is safe to say Belmont/Redwood Shores is a strong baseball community. The BRSLL Board appreciates your continued patience as we navigate this international health crisis and necessary Little League season delay, both unprecedented. We thank you for your continued support and look forward to providing another update in the weeks ahead or as circumstances warrant. Until then, please continue to stay healthy and safe.
President, BRSLL (on behalf of the Board of Directors)
